STATEMENT REGARDING DR. LAWRENCE CLAYTON HOPKINS
On July 7, 2022, our office was notified about the arrest of former associate pastor, Dr. Clay Hopkins. On Thursday, June 23, 2022, Rollingbrook Fellowship's (Baytown's First Baptist Church) then Associate Pastor, Dr. Lawrence Clayton Hopkins, was arrested by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department for online solicitation of a minor during an operation to fight the exploitation of children. This is heartbreaking news for our church, the church Dr. Hopkins was serving at the time, and the Hopkins family as a whole. I wanted to bring this truth to you with the hope that our transparency in this matter will draw us toward greater unity in Christ Jesus.
Along with Rollingbrook Fellowship, we are grateful to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department’s efforts to protect our children and pursue those who would seek to harm them.
We are committed to honoring and protecting those who are made in God’s image and for whom Christ died.
Dr. Hopkins' alleged actions are contrary to the message of the Gospel and have caused immense pain to both his immediate family and the churches with which he was affiliated. I humbly ask that you pray for the Hopkins family, Rollingbrook Fellowship and their leadership. We find hope in God's faithfulness, and we will stand firm on the promise from Paul to the church in Rome: "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose." Our God is a redeeming God who can and will use even this for His glory.
FBC CS continues to remain committed to the proclamation of the Good News in a fallen world: that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life who offers forgiveness to those who confess and believe.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Troy
